You Are Cordially Invited

Exploratory Deliberations/Consultation

Warm Greetings.

LES Multiversity/Loyola Extension Services/Loyola College of Social Sciences (Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India) and Madras School of Social Work (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) are in the process of planning an international online conference/unconference end of January 2024 on "Reimagining  Social Work in the Era of Anthropogenic Climate Related/Induced Poly-Crisis". See Preliminary Details of the Effort Here

As a step to that event, we are in the process of holding an exploratory deliberation/consultative session on the 12th of August from 9 am (Indian Time). Both institutions are supported by a host of (growing) co-organisers and supporters. (Click Here and Scroll down.) You can see the participants list for this consultative session below. (Scroll Down.)

This consultative event will aim to encourage deep conversations and deliberations on:

  • How do we re-frame and re-orient social work/social work education to go beyond the mainstream boundaries and imagination of public service in an age of climate-related/induced poly-crisis? (See recent resources/references on or related to our concerns...Click Here and Scroll Down)

  • How do we go beyond the silos of mono-academic/professional cultures?"

  • Can 'social work', (professional social work, social work in general, social development work) in whatever form it takes (curative, preventive, development, other), continue with the same orientation/purpose/concerns into the period of climate crisis/emergencies?

  • Can 'social work education' just continue the traditional trajectory in terms of courses, offerings, and streams?

  • Are our social workers equipped with the necessary orientations and competencies/skills that can address a world of interconnected crises/complex poly-crisis produced by the nature of development we have adopt and climate crisis?

  • Should we rethink social work in general and social work education in particular?

  • Can we create a community of 'social workers for climate praxis'? What will that mean and how will we sustain it?"

  • (Of course, we encourage you to have your own set of queries !)

You are cordially invited to share your insights on the concerns and questions raised above. Also, how we can structure the main online event in January 2024.
