Janet Augustine Ph.D., manages Facilitator Partnership and Networking, Loyola Extension Services (LES), Loyola College Of Social Sciences (LCSS), Sreekaryam. Thiruvananthapuram.

Her services are directly offered at Poonthura/. Poonthura community (in partnership between the parish services there and the Loyola Extension Services/LES Multiversity). Services include

 

  • Community counselling centre at Canossa Social Centre: A collaborative effort of Canossian Community, Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT) and LES

    • Cater to mentally challenged persons offer free treatment & medicine, counselling and family visits 

    • Weekly services from MHAT - availability  of a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, social workers and community organisers 

    • Building of sacred space for sharing through regular family visits

  • Canossa Family support groups

    • Caretakers of mentally sick are motivated and guided for monthly  sharing in small groups to form support groups

  • Internship for post graduate students from colleges 

    • Guidance and support for concurrent and block placements

    • Guided exposure to community  

  • Supports Canossa buds an initiative of  Canossian community

    • Centre for children from Poonthura who need extra support for education

    • Evening classes and value based education through activities for around 60 children with support of an experienced  canossian sister and  three teachers  

  • Organizes youth training programme

 

Dr Sr Janet Augustine is a Canossian sister passionately taking initiatives for various community development activities at Poonthura in collaboration with LES and the Parish.  Her profile includes the following:

 

  • Completed MSc Chemistry from Mar Ivanios College Trivandrum in1984 

  • MPhil in Chemistry from Kerala University in 1991 

  • PhD in Environmental Chemistry from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2004

  • Certificate programme in Basic Counselling skills from MHRD

  • Pursing MA in Gender Studies and Development at IGNOU, New Delhi (2023)
